Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a discipline that deals with the equipping of tools, knowledge, and skills that are important to an individual in attaining a good social relationship with others, manage their emotions, feel and show empathy to others and have set goals which are positive in life. Through this skills and knowledge, most people will be proper positively in life through the education life skills that they acquire. The benefits to the students in schools that the social and emotional learning bring are many and are greatly focused to the improvement and the well-being of the individual. The importance of social-emotional learning is therefore discussed in the paragraphs below.

The social and emotional learning has been able to show great advantages to the academic life of most individuals. It requires one to have discipline so that they will be able to succeed in their academic work. Through the social and emotional learning, the students are also able to accept who they are this makes them concentrate more in class work which then translates to good results.  This also occurs as a result of the children developing positive attitude towards the school because of the skills that they learn.

The other advantage of the social and emotional learning or SEL is that it has been effective in the behavioral change of most individuals.  One factor that leads to a negative behavior is the inability of the individuals to contain their anger.  Because of the anger, they will then bring it out in a destructive manner or in an appropriate behavior.  The social and emotional learning has been of great importance in ensuring that the individuals have proper anger management skills.  They have also been involved in few cases of substance abuse, aggression and are able to develop better relations with the others in the schools.  

The social behavior of most of the individuals will be improved through the social and emotional learning.  For people to co-exist peacefully in life, they should have the best social skills.  If one has a poor social behavior, it will be difficult for them to live in peace with others.  Through the social and emotional learning, the individuals have shown to improve greatly in schools.  This is due to the good relations that they develop with the students and the teachers in the school.
